I applauded that decision as one of those "Duh!" things. My opinion is this: The founders of this great nation created our constitution as a guide to what the federal government is tasked with doing. It spells out some freedoms that they felt so strongly about, they felt they had to include them at the beginning of the document as a "Bill of Rights". Freedom of religion is the very first thing they wrote of. So how did a department of the federal government (The Veterans' Administration) dare to have a policy forbidding a hero's expression of his or her religion?
Now, the Supreme Court in the state of California has decided that it's unconstitutional for the State to prohibit marriage between same-sex partners. Again, DUH! How could it be any other way? People who are gay are no more deviant than the rest of the population. They aren't going to "turn" anyone gay, married or not. They contribute as many positive and negative attributes to our society as any straight person.
The constitution was not created to be a guide for how the government of the United States can exercise its will over its citizens. It was written to FREE us from the tyranny of government. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That is what we are guaranteed. I wish all of those who are gay and want to be married to their life-partners a lifetime of happiness. Same applies to my fellow hets as well =)
LONG LIVE FREEDOM!!!

My neice Becky - who's getting married this summer, BTW - was taught by my brother Matthew her first sentence: "Daddy's Got A Shotgun". Thinking that this was the ultimate in good planning, I did likewise with my Angel. Her first full sentence was also, "Dada Gotta Shotgun". For those that think it's strange, wrong, evil or twisted, let me just tell you: I love my daughter. I love my daughter, and I KNOW HOW GUYS ARE!!! I have tried my best to teach my children how to respect others, and to expect respect from others. If my Angel falls for some doofus low-life that mistreats her, I will shake my head and ask, "How could this have happened?"
Then I will kill him.
That said, you can probably understand why the following story hit home with me...
Bogart (Georgia) — A man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a motorcyclist who followed his daughters home from a department store.
Richard Harold Gear, 45, claimed he was acting in self-defense when he shot Bryan Joseph Mough around 6:45 p.m. Monday as Mough drove his motorcycle past Gear's house, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said.
The daughters, ages 17 and 19, had called their father on a cell phone to tell him they were being followed, Berry said. As they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of his driveway with a pistol, Berry said.
Mough, 21, drove past the house, turned around and made another pass. Gear fired his .40-caliber semiautomatic gun two or three times, hitting Mough once in the back, Berry said.
You can probably guess that I think the guy should not be charged with murder. The lowest level of homicide at the most, and then he should get a few years probabtion with time served. That's it, and I am not kidding. It is a father's responisibility and right to protect his family, and when the dirtbag followed those girls home, he knew where they lived. In my opinion, at that point he became a serious threat that needeed to be dealt with. And Dad dealt with it.
Good for him. If more people cared that much, less dirtbags would be harming society in general.

Republicans get to vote for 2 overly liberal candidates, Sen. John McCain and Mit Romney; Democrats get to vote to choose between a socialist woman - Sen. Hillary Clinton and a socialist man - Sen. Barak Obama. One of those Democrats will turn out to be a 'first'... First woman candidate from a major party, or first black candidate from a major party. Whoo Hoo... let the festivities begin!
As I have said many times lately, I have no problem voting for a woman... But I will not vote for Sen. Clinton. To prove I'm not just saying that, I'll let you know who I am voting for, in my party's primary. Christine Smith is getting my vote.
From Christine's blog entry of Jan. 26th, 2008:
...we should strongly shine the light of liberty for all...because each time you do, more blinders come off and people see.
Granted, the socialist mentality is inbred in generation after generation thanks to government schools which raise our youth to be good little slaves - obedient to social conformity - and to all its masters with the government being their primary source of provision and security. Children are taught not to question, but to accept. Thus, we have millions of Americans who actually believe government serves them by protecting them both as a nation and even as an individual should they require help in their personal lives. They're not about to challenge the status quo - it's always been this way so why challenge it? - or so goes such a line of thought.
But it has not always been this way. Americans were once a strong people who valued independence. We were a nation of people who had a strong self identity as individuals, a greater understanding that we own ourselves, are responsible for ourselves, and are entitled to the fruits of our labor. We for years had an ingrained abhorrence for taking what was not ours, much less allowing others to steal from us and give it to others, and yet somehow we as a society have devolved into a weak people who look to government to take care of them from birth to grave. But for 126 years Americans were free from being taxed on their income. We worked, we invested, we bought homes. Our income and savings had value. We were far freer than today personally and economically.
All this talk of 'change' by the major-party candidates. Bullshit! When a Democrat or a Republican is voted into office, you get the SAME OLD CRAP! Do you want change? Here's what the 2 major parties say to that: 'YOU CAN'T HANDLE CHANGE!' Nothing will change. Government will continue to grow, to control more and more of each and every citizens' lives. Our dependence on oil will stay the same. Pollution will keep happening. More and more free enterprise will be taken over by the federal government. You don't want change. You're sheeple(1), and as long as your day-to-day doesn't get worse any faster than it is right now, you're content to graze on whatever the main-stream media feeds you.
WAKE UP!
If you REALLY want change, start SERIOUSLY checking out the other politcal parties. Libertarian is obviously my choice, but put aside the media's bashing of the Green Party, American Independent Party or the Peace And Freedom Party and see what REAL change is all about.
You can be a part of change. You can help facilitate change. But it isn't going to happen by voting for McClintObamNey. If ANY third-party candidate gets a significant amount of votes, the power structure in D.C. can and will change. But until SHEEPLE become concerned citizens WORTHY of the legacy of our founders - the B.S. in D.C. will continue ad naseum.

The way sometimes people say things that they mean, but it turns out that it was either interperated incorrectly or communicated inefficiently. And she came up with an analogy that is really quite profoundin its simplicity: The Tequila Theory.
Many things in life, perhaps everything, can be equated to tequila. For instance, when you're told that someone is bringing Patron, but they show up with Jose Cuervo.Permalink

We were talking about music. I had just heard Ann Wilson's new song, a remake of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". I said how much I liked it, and asked if he'd heard it. His reply? I quote, "Oh I don't care. She's a fat cow."
WHOOOAAAAA! "You're kidding me?" I asked. "She's got the best voice of any female in our time. One of the best voices male OR female". How does a person who knows music, is in fact a musician, get so clouded by physical appearance that an extremely talented artist can be dismissed simply because that artist doesn't fit into today's "Size Zero" vision of body perfection?
This has nothing to do with what I'm saying, just my opinion, but I actually don't like the whole size zero thing. If women were supposed to look like 14 year old boys, they wouldn't be pre-disposed to having curves. But I digress...
So anyway, that got me to thinking... What is it that we value in others? What is it that you find in a person that makes it or breaks it? For me, it's easy. I value honesty, a love of Earth and a sense of humor above all else. Artistic talent is a nice plus too =) Good looks are fine. But there's so much plastic involved in that aspect, that it is really worthless. You can't fake honesty (not for long anyways) or caring for our world. Either you're funny and know what is... Or you don't. Everyone has some kind of talent.
So that's what I value most in my fellow humans. How about you?
